4 CUP PROJECT

I started by using low-fire white. I threw 4 cups over the span of 2 classes. I thought of cup bowls for a picnic and ended up going with a simple short rounded cup. After they were fired I used the light purple underglaze for the lavender flowers and used white and dark green underglaze for the stem. I then clear-glazed it. I learned and improved on throwing because of this assignment.

FITTED LID/ BOX PROJECT

I created  large slab from low fire white. I then used a felting knife to cut the slab into 4 pieces. I used a needle tool create a more accurate cut. I smoothed it out with a sponge and water. For the lid I added mini coils in a square shape, to fit into the square, so it could be fitted. I used a plastic knife with slip to create a rough texture. i made a slab and cut out the handle ande contued the slip design onto it. When it made it out of the kiln, i glazed it with cotton tail and a redish brown shade, Java chip. It will soon go through the kelm.

Handles Project

IMG-4856.jpg

I decided to make a vase with two small handles. I used low fire white and created a large slab. I slip and scored the sides together and blended it together with a rib and a sponge and water. I then created small handles from a small slab. Once it goes through the kiln, I will create a small lavender flower in the front of the vase using green and purple underglaze, then I will clear glaze it, to match the cup bowls. During the firing, the handles broke off. Why? I didn’t score the vase and handled well enough so the slip didn’t have any to grab onto. So I made another handle project. I started with a slab and went in with a small ball tool and created a square lip through the slab. I went over it with a sponge and water.I think added the handles and I made sure to score the slab and the handles well, then add the slip, I added some tv antennas and slip and scored those as well.

Master Artwork

For my master art piece, I made one of the melting clocks from The Persistence of Memory, created by Salvador Dali. He created this piece in 1931 and is the most acclaimed and famous painting of his career. I started with a large block of low-fire white. I used a rolling pin to create a medium-sized slab. from that, I created a shape that resembled a melting clock. I then used the extra pieces of the slab to make half-an-inch thick strips of clay. I slipped and scored them on the slab and blended them in using a blue blending tool. I then used a wet sponge to smooth the base. I made more strips from the base extra slab and created the pointers on a clock. I then used a small ballpoint tool to engrave the numbers onto the clock, and with that add the details. I slipped and scored the pointers on and blended the base.

Bust Project

This is the biggest and in my opinion the best project I've done. It was very time-consuming, which is a huge reason why my other projects are late. I started from a block and trimmed the head, neck, and shoulder/chest area.  I then shaped the face and neck then the shoulders. I added the boobs to help even out her face and body. I started to enhance the brow bone, the began the nose. I created a large coil and two balls. I smoothed with a blue smoothing tool and slipped and scored it to the face. I then added more clay add a large bump on her nose, like mine. I never see many representations if my nose, so I really wanted to achieve that here. I wanted her to look like a woman in the late 1800s standing by the beach. I wanted her face to show the experiences she had faced, so making her tired and unbothered was where I was going. I added turned-down lips that created an effortless look. I added the detail on her shoulders back and breasts. Then I chopped her head off and hallowed it out. I hollowed her neck to her base as well, then stuck her head back on and blended it. Then for the hair created 3 long slabs and added hair texture to them and chopped the bottoms to create a look of hair. I used the blue smoothing tool to create a hair part, then I went over to create hair details. I then used extra slab pieces to create the loose strands, again I was going for beach hair, wavy and gathered. I added the eyebrows as well and used a needle tool to add detail. In all, It was very difficult. After it was fired I glazed it with cottontail and rawhide to make it look like an old statue from the renaissance era.
