Bee Hive Vase
It took around two classes to complete the building and another two to glaze. I started off with low fire white and rolls out A TON of coils. I then created a flat circular base and from there I scored and slipped each coil to create a sphere, but not blending the coils in, since i wanted each of the coils shapes to stand out to create a bee hive look. I then create little bees. I under glazed them then scored and slipped them on. Once it came out, I used underglaze to finish off the little bees, then put clear glaze on them, NOT THE VASE. For the vase I mixed cotton tail with calm yellow to create a more pastel looking yellow. And from there i glazed the bottom, inside, and of course the outside. Overall the only I would've changed was maybe adding more white to the glaze mixture so the color would be more pastel, and make the vase larger.
First Bust Attempt
This was the larger project I've ever done and it was certainly a challenge. I started with 6-12 clay and stamped it on a some sort of mold. I created a base head shape by stamping more clay on and from that I created the shaping. For the eyes, I hollowed two circles and made little spheres to fill it. With a thin piece of clay I added it on top to make the lid. Then I created a heaver eye brown bone. For the eye brows i just made a small coil and shaped it to a time burton style eyebrow, then with a pin tool i added little lines for detail. For the nose I used a 2 small balls and a small coil and from there build to create a better shape. The lips were made with a tutorial on Pinterest, I did five different ways and I don't want to explain them all. Immediately I went wrong cutting the head off and trying to hollow it, NEVER doing that again. So after I patched it up I did the right way and cut through the back of the head and hollowed the bottom directly from the bottom by flipping it over. Here's why my piece broke. Some I didn't know or think about was all the little air bubbles, so next time I'm going to press from the inside and use a pin tool to pop all the little bubbles. And last but not lest for the hair I used a mix of slabs and coils, which slipped and scored those as well
